Tenure
Back in 2006 Bear Back Biking began the suggested '180 day' process with the Integrated Land Managemant Bureau (ILMB) in order to apply for a Tenure to operate our commercial recreational mountain bike operations on Crown Land (land owned by the government).
In short, tenure is required by any company who makes money by using Crown Land as part of their business operations. For example, if you charge someone to walk their dog and you walk them on any piece of crown land, you need tenure as you are effectively using crown land for a commercial operation. There are 'incidental use' exclusions but thats essentially how it works.
Operations like Heli Skiing have had this process dialled in for years, but the increase in mountain biking operations throughout the province brought tenure into the spotlight.
In the region of $8000, countless revisions and a bucket load of work later, in January 2010 we finally had our tenure awarded and are proud to announce that Bear Back Biking are BC's first company to be granted tenure to operate guided mountain biking operations on crown land!
