Whistler is a town dedicated on the development and nurture of youth sports. Whistler has set many standards with it ssuperb Whistler Kids ski program and any town that has its school kids heading up the mountain for a P.E. l;esson on skis has to be doing something right.
Whistler has taken this kids sports program forwards into the summer with the mountain offering a replacement of the now defunct STORM BC summer camps with its own DFX freeride club.
The DFX Club focuses on riders under the age of 18 and provides a safe and progressive teaching environment for the kids.
Not only does Whistler have dedicated coaching for kids, but the nature of the resort is such that throughout the summer months, there is always something available to keep the younger ones entertained.
At the base of Blackcomb there is the Adventure Zone complete with bungy trampolines, mazes, taboggan track, pony rides, climbing wall, etc etc.
There are often street entertainers out painting faces and looking silly.
Theres also plenty to keep the more independant youngsters occupied too.
So, what about the kids too old to get their face painted like a tiger? Well, for the riders theres the bike park, the skateboard boad park and dirt jumps. For the kids that don't ride and the sole parent that does who is inevitably dragging the significant other half and kids to what can only be described as biking mecca theres is more to do than you can shake a pedal wrench at.
The entertainment list is long and full of great ideas from cheap and cheerful to 'mildly expensive' Humvee tours.
White water rafting, sightseeing, kayaking, ATV tours, hores rides, bungee - the list goes on.
So, kids who ride can come here to progress and learn from the numerous kid specific coaches, kids that don't ride can do any number of things in this exciting village.
